AIFF/WAV vs. Lossless vs. MP3
A few points: MP3s on decent audio equipment will hurt your head and stomach. I am serious. Lossless just doesn’t sound as dynamic as uncompressed. And again, seems to hurt my stomach. AIFF/WAV (uncompressed at all) seem to sound better, I’ll give them the stomach test later. If you store your stuff in Apple Lossless, you can extract to AIFF anytime you want. Cool!

Today’s experiment is to test out the quality of Apple Lossless format. I am pretty over the way that MP3s (and AAC from the IMS) sound on my somewhat fancier audio gear. So I ripped a bunch of CDs into Lossless on the G5 at my house to see how things worked out. Initial thoughts: Apple Lossless rips are fast. Like 45x.
